Privacy Policy

FOKUS is a German vocabulary learning application operated by Gergely Chladny (“FOKUS”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the FOKUS mobile application and website.

1. Our privacy approach

FOKUS is designed to collect as little personal information as reasonably possible. You do not need to create an account to use FOKUS.

Your vocabulary learning progress, Leitner-system status, learning history, preferences, custom vocabulary, and other locally stored learning data are stored on your device and are not synchronised to a FOKUS cloud account.

FOKUS currently does not use behavioural advertising, third-party advertising networks, Firebase Analytics, or third-party user-tracking analytics.

2. Information stored on your device

FOKUS may store information locally on your device, including:

This information remains on your device unless a specific feature described below requires information to be transmitted externally. Removing the app or clearing its local application data may permanently delete locally stored learning data. FOKUS currently does not provide cloud synchronisation or cloud backup.

3. AI Chat Buddy

FOKUS may provide an optional AI Chat Buddy feature. When you use it, the messages you submit are transmitted over the internet for AI processing. FOKUS currently uses OpenRouter to route AI requests to supported AI model providers.

Your AI messages may therefore be processed by OpenRouter and by the model provider selected to generate a response. According to OpenRouter, basic request metadata such as timestamps, model and token counts is logged, while prompts and completions are not logged by default unless logging is enabled. Model providers may have their own data-handling and retention practices.

Please do not submit sensitive personal information, passwords, payment-card information, medical information, confidential documents, or information about other people through AI Chat Buddy.

FOKUS is intended for users aged 16 and older. Because the third-party AI service currently used by FOKUS requires users of that service to be at least 18, AI Chat Buddy is intended only for users aged 18 or older.

4. Purchases and subscriptions

FOKUS may offer individual vocabulary packs and Premium subscriptions. Android purchases are processed through Google Play Billing. FOKUS does not receive or store your full payment-card information.

Google may process payment and transaction information under its own policies. FOKUS may receive information necessary to verify a purchase or subscription and unlock the corresponding content.

5. Contact and support

If you contact support@learnfokus.com, we may receive your email address, your name if supplied, the content of your message, and any information or attachments you voluntarily provide.

We use this information to answer your request, provide support, investigate problems, or respond to feedback. Support correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes, legal obligations, or dispute resolution.

6. Website infrastructure

The FOKUS website is hosted using Cloudflare infrastructure. As part of operating and securing the website, Cloudflare may process technical information such as IP addresses, request information, and security-related data under its own privacy terms.

7. Analytics and advertising

FOKUS currently does not use behavioural advertising, third-party advertising networks, Firebase Analytics, or cross-app advertising identifiers for marketing purposes. If this changes, this Privacy Policy and any applicable Google Play Data Safety disclosures will be updated.

8. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Information may be processed by third parties only where necessary to provide a feature or service, including:

9. Data retention and deletion

Locally stored learning information remains on your device until you delete it using available app functionality, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the application, subject to the behaviour of your device and operating system.

FOKUS does not currently maintain a server-side account containing your learning progress. AI requests and purchase information may be subject to the retention policies of the relevant third-party providers. Support emails may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights concerning personal data, including rights to access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, and the right to complain to an applicable data-protection authority.

Because most FOKUS learning information is stored only on your own device, we may not possess a server-side copy that we can access, export, correct, or delete on your behalf. For information that we actually hold, such as support correspondence, contact support@learnfokus.com.

11. Age requirements

FOKUS is intended for users aged 16 and older. AI Chat Buddy is intended only for users aged 18 and older while FOKUS relies on an AI service whose applicable terms require users to be at least 18.

12. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the limited information processed by FOKUS. However, no electronic transmission, device storage, or third-party service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users are responsible for maintaining appropriate security for their own device.

13. International processing

When AI Chat Buddy, Google Play, Cloudflare, or email services are used, information may be processed by service providers located outside your country. Those providers handle information according to their own legal obligations and privacy terms.

14. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when FOKUS features, service providers, legal requirements, or data practices change. The latest version will be published on this page with an updated revision date.
